Remedial Therapy (0 - 13 years)

What is Remedial Therapy?

Our Remedial Kinetic program is called ‘Remedial Kinetics’.  Remedial Kinetics focuses on helping children reaching their maximum potential through the evaluation

and implementation of treatments using a wide variety of intervention and support. Ultimately, our goal is to promote independence, facilitate motor development and

function, improve strength and enhance learning opportunities.

How does Remedial Therapy work?

Firstly, an in-depth assessment is performed by a Kinderkineticist to determine whether a baby/child is experiencing any serious problems with his/her motor

development and to help identify the possible underlying causes as to why a baby/child might be struggling with his/her development. (These assessments are done

based on medical-related referrals, but are also suggested if a parent or teacher is concerned about a child’s development or if any difficulties are experienced by a child

whilst participating in one of our programs e.g. Baby Kinetics or Toddler Kinetics).

Assessments are done using internationally recognized test batteries such as the PDMS-2, BOT-2 and QNST-3, ensuring the assessment is scientifically objective and

correct. (For example: a child can be placed on a percentile scale to determine the exact stance of his/her development. This can help us to determine if a child may have

a developmental coordination disorder (DCD), for instance). A medical history form as well as clinical observations made by the Kinderkineticist, aids in formulating a

proper recommendation.

After the assessment, the parents receive a detailed report explaining the findings. Should a serious problem or delay be detected, an individually-designed home

therapy program is provided to the parents in order to address the problem areas that might have been identified. Depending on the type and severity of the problem,

therapy sessions or an adapted physical program (individually or group based) is then presented by a Kinderkineticist (qualified therapist and paediatric exercise

scientist) at the child’s school or at our practice once or twice a week.

What does Remedial Therapy address?

At Miraculum Kinetics, our Kinderkinetici can determine and address the following elements:

Based on our experience as well as the use of certain test batteries, our Kinderkinetici are also able to identify and/or pick up on the following areas that might be in need

for further assessment or intervention and will thus be able to refer to other medical-related professions when it comes to:

Who will benefit from remedial therapy?

-   motor planning

-   low muscle tone

-   coordination problems

-   difficulties with spatial orientation

-   midline crossing & laterality problems

-   balancing problems

-   problems with eye muscle control

Why Remedial Therapy?

Proper motor and perceptual-motor development are main areas that need to be addressed by experts in their fields. Why, you may ask? Experts are trained to recognize

and address the unique needs of each child according to their individual development. Motor abilities are further one of the key factors for school readiness, while the

health of children has a strong relationship with physical activity patterns. Brain research also proved that movement increases the number of connections in the brain

and that it contributes to the eventual structure of the brain. Motor development is therefore regarded as the foundation of total development in children as it affects all

other facets of their development and impacts their total well-being.
